The Dream Academy contest featuring Karlee Tanaka, one of 20 selected from 120,000!
The Debut: Dream Academy is a survival-style audition program produced by HYBE Entertainment and Geffen Records for a 6-member global girl group. The show aims to globalize the K-pop production system and attracted 120,000 applicants over the past two years.The 20 girls selected to participate in the show were announced in late August 2023, and the voting will be held on Weverse starting on September 6th. The first episode of the competition series aired on September 1, 2023, featuring all 20 contestants as they watched a conversation between HYBE Chairman Bang Si-Hyuk and Interscope Geffen A&M Records CEO John Janick, as they give advice on what it takes to succeed in a girl group.
Karlee Tanaka took lessons from me a few years back and she is one of the most focused disciplined students I've ever coached. She would have every lesson and new technique well-practiced before the next lesson, every time. I knew she was a dancer and when she put everything together at a Japanese song contest, she electrified the crowd.
That she qualified for this contest was therefore not surprising for someone like that. And above all this, she is also one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. And I worked with her for a couple of years so I know.
